Broadleaf Weeds in Buffalo Lawns

Broadleaf Weeds in Buffalo Lawns

Broadleaf weeds are a real problem for Buffalo lawns, this is due to the herbicides which are mostly used to control broadleaf weeds in lawns can often severely damage or kill a Buffalo lawn.

For this reason, the lawn owner will need to be very careful when selecting a weed killer for their Buffalo grass.

Weed Killer For Buffalo Lawns

Most weeds which invade lawns are in the category of Broadleaf weeds, so a Broadleaf weed killer is often the first weed control measure to use on lawn weeds.

Broadleaf weedkillers will kill many weeds such as clover, petty spurge, bindii, dandelions and capeweed.

When purchasing a herbicide for Buffalo grass, always ensure the pesticide packaging clearly says it is safe for use on Buffalo lawns. In most cases these products will be sold as Buffalo Lawn Weed Killers.

If you are unsure if the product you are considering is safe, be sure to check the side of the packaging which may say "Not to be used on buffalo grass".

Spraying For Broadleaf Weeds

The different Buffalo cultivars will all react differently to herbicide use.

For this reason it is best to always test a small area of Buffalo lawn one week prior to spraying the entire lawn.

Apply with a Spraying bottle with the herbicide mixed with water at manufacturers recommendations.

Lawn Mowing and Weed Spraying

Do not apply Buffalo herbicides one week prior to spraying and one week after lawn mowing. Spraying too early after mowing can severely damage the lawn, and mowing too early after spraying will remove much of the herbicide, reducing it's effectiveness.

Lawn Watering and Weed Spraying

Do not apply herbicides within 2 days of lawn watering or expected rain, as this will reduce the effectiveness of the weed spray.

Best Broadleaf Weed Control?

These days there are many weed killers for Buffalo lawns available for purchase, some of which are often sold at expensive prices. We always recommend to choose a Buffalo herbicide based on the best priced product from a reputable herbicide brand.
